Score One Little 40-Yard Goal, and Suddenly Everyone Wants You
By: Martha | April 3rd, 2007
Fabio Quagliarella has been innocently flying along under the radar this year, kicking ass for Sampdoria but seemingly being ignored outside of Italy. Even after he made his debut for the Azzurri last week, no one not connected to Serie A seemed to take much notice. But this week, all that has changed — clearly Alex Ferguson has an eagle eye on YouTube and, when he saw Quagliarella’s wonder goal against Chievo, he decided he had to have him.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Man U see Quagliarella — who is only 23 — as the perfect replacement for the oft-injured, aging Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and have already made contact with the Samp striker’s agent. Based on statements out of Samp yesterday, Man U should be be prepared to pay at least £11 million if they want to land the player, and they’ve got company in their quest: Inter and Milan are reportedly both interested, along with Roma and an unnamed second foreign club. (Curiouser and curiouser!) To complicate matters further, Quagliarella is co-owned by Udine, who would surely want their cut of the bounty once the virtually inevitable sale takes place.
Me, I just hope the guy stays in Italy. Or, at the very least, has the decency not to move to Man U.

No, come on! If these wonderkids start heading off to English clubs who will be left for Milan and Inter to pick up and screw over?
I do wonder if he’ll ever get to being a regular in the Nazionale if he does move, though. He will, right? He is just that good?
