Sergio Ramos to Milan? Wha?
By: Martha | November 8th, 2007
The Italian newspapers today are full of the news that Milan are considering a bid for Real Madrid’s dreamy (so I hear, anyway) Sergio Ramos. Clearly this is untrue, since Ramos is only 21 and therefore far too young to even get a chance in the Rossoneri defense, but the rumor is out there, tenuous as it might be.
The story comes from Marca in Spain: The paper claims that Carlo Ancelotti has specifically asked ownership to buy Ramos as a way of shoring up the team’s aging, unpredictable defense. There are no quotes, though, so it could easily have just been made up. That said, it IS true that Milan were interested in Ramos when he left Sevilla two years ago (the papers say they actually made a bid), and Arrigo Sacchi really did compare the Spaniard to Paolo Maldini in an interview a year ago. Plus, there aren’t a lot of teams around that wouldn’t be interested in bringing in someone of Ramos’ youth and ability.
There is, however, the little issue of a contract that runs through 2013, with a clause dictating that it’ll cost €150 million for anyone to pry Ramos away from Real. God damn. And here is where we find what is probably the reason the story was written: Since anyone paying €150 million cash for a player seems pretty crazy, Marca assume that any deal for the defender would consist of a combination of cash and and a body. Whose body? Hmm. Oh, wait — here’s an idea! How about Kaka? [Insert eye-roll here.]
Yeah. Probably, this story is entirely made up, just another way for Marca to create a pretend reality in which the Brazilian moves to Real. Ah well. It’s fun to think about, anyway — imagine the hair on a Milan backline that brings Ramos and Nesta together.

Yeah, this would NEVER HAPPEN. Including everything you mentioned above, Martha, Ramos has quickly risen to the almost godlike status enjoyed by Iker Casillas and Raul among Madrid supporters. The president of the club is unpopular enough–he certainly wouldn’t risk his entire presidency this way, even for Kaka.
Marca is actually in a feud with Real Madrid management right now, which, along with the “BRING KAKA NOW!” drumbeat, may have contributed to this story.

“So you hear?”
I believe you were the one that coined the name Sergio “Hot As Balls” Ramos.
You’re not fooling anyone.

I usually try not to comment on footballers’ looks unless I have something nice to say about them, but Sergio Ramos is so ugly not even Milan could help that face. Maldini, even at the height of his shoulder-padded, eighties-hair fashionista status, could not convey the impression of utter stupidity that Ramos permanently does. More Rooney than rawr.
Plus he’s too fast for the Milan team. I still say it’s time for Zambrotta to come home.

You did come up with the Hot As Balls nick name, you cant fool anyone. But this rumor is untrue, he will play out his career with Real, trust me.

Erm. I know nothing of this “hot as balls,” what a ludicrous phrase that is. *cough*
You confusion about Ramos’ looks aside, roswitha, you’re right about Zambro fitting the bill — if nothing else he’s old, which is perfect for Milan.

Roswitha, for real? I’ll admit he’s not cover model good looking, but I wouldn’t call him ugly. And he’s definitely not on a level with Rooney! (Nice photo choice, Martha.)
Anyway, it’s not going to happen. Real will get rid of Raul before they’ll get rid of Ramos.

It is not confusion, Martha and Lisa, I assure you I’m telling it like I see it. I’d rather have Ronaldinho, who can actually get up an expression on his face that doesn’t amount to ‘what are we having for lunch?’ ‘does my hair look alright when I go into a tackle like this?’ and ‘OMG I keep scoring goals by mistake even though that’s totally not my job!*’ in sum.
Have Ronaldinho ON MY TEAM, let me be perfectly clear.
Alright, he’s not as dire as Rooney, but I have to confess I think Rooney’s THIS IS MY THINKING FACE look is kind of endearing sometimes.
* - an expression you will never ever ever see on Gila’s face.

It’s a good thing you clarified, Roswitha. I was about to be deeply confused as to how you could call Ramos ugly but think Ronaldinho was good looking. Anyway, we’ll just have to agree to disagree on Ramos’ attractiveness (or lack thereof.)
And Martha, no playing innocent on “hot as balls”.

Congratulations on the linkback from “Atlanta Pontiac”. I’ll be sure to look them up and give them a big thanks for you the next time I’m in Bankhead.
I’m still trying to figure out what could have possibly inspired that. My first thought is Pontiac uses the campaign slogan “The Sunfire is hot as balls”, but that came later.

That made me laugh out loud, Chris, I’m writing them a letter and suggesting it as we speak. That’ll have them FLYING off the lot.

roswitha, are you suggesting that Gila scores ON PURPOSE?! Please.
(And thank you, Lisa, I suffered through many pages of images before deciding on that one.)

I’m sure it was sheer torture. :)

I would like to see this happen, Ramos at A.c. Milan obviously not kaka at real madrid. Milan kneed to bring in someone like ramos so they can add some youth to their defense.

Agreed with Louise.
Poor Zambro has become really injury-prone, I’m very worried about him. (I was going to say ‘why would Milan want an injury prone defender, but…)
