Serie A Weekend Round-up: Giornata 12 (plus Serie B and other news)

By: Francesco | November 17th, 2008

Roma, languishing in the relegation zone before the derby, took on Lazio, who are flying high in the upper echelons of the table. Roma needed a victory over their rivals to kick-start their season and boost morale, while Lazio were looking to confirm themselves as a side to be reckoned with this season. While the game itself was hard-fought by both sides, the Giallorossi came out on top, with Julio Baptista scoring the lone goal of the match. Roma fans everywhere hopes this wakes up the squad. Full Giornata 12 results after the jump.

ZENGA BRAWLS WITH VARRIALE ON TV

Every coach is contracted by RAI to appear for a mandatory post-match interview after every game. Last week, Catania coach Walter Zenga chose not to appear and RAI analyst Enrico Varriale said “Every coach is under contract to give an interview, Zenga is not being professional and courteous, especially after we [RAI] gave Zenga a job last year as an analyst when everyone forgot about him.” This week Zenga appeared and got into a big fight with Varriale. Varriale ended up saying “You were a great goalkeeper who made few mistakes, but this is a mistake, just like the one you made that cost us the World Cup in 1990.” Zenga was furious and eventually stormed off. Today they supposedly made peace. Here’s the video:

Francesco, you forgot Ferreira Pinto’s goal against Napoli. Way way better than the Zlatan free-kick (which, let’s face it, was just very powerful but not particularly accurate).

I know, Ferreira Pinto’s goal was an excellent display of technique and speed, but I included Zlatan’s free kick because although not accurate it was just so powerful and unstoppable. It was clocked at 124 kph!
