Serie B Promotion Final Decided

Going into the Promotion semi-final second leg, all 4 teams had a chance to advance. Empoli and Brescia played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg and had all to play for in the second. Grosseto upset Livorno 2-0 away, and they liked their chances of finishing the job at home but you couldn’t count out a Livorno team with so many experienced players.

So, the two teams that will play for Serie A promotion are Brescia and Livorno.

It’s actually pretty fair this way, seeing how Livorno and Brescia both finished 3rd and 4th in the table respectively.

Livorno had to overturn a 2-0 deficit away to Grosseto, and managed to trample their Tuscan neighbors 4-1:

Tough break for Grosseto, who were so close to realizing a dream and reaching the promotion final.

Brescia had drawn 1-1 with Empoli away and now had the advantage to get the result at home. They did, winning 3-0 (with two goals coming in stoppage time) and now off to face Livorno for a place in Serie A:

So now the Promotion final will be played over two legs (June 14 and June 20) and the two clubs will desperately want to achieve promotion. Livorno were expected to win automatic promotion this season but Bari and Parma’s great seasons made that impossible. The Amaranto will want to get right back to Serie A. Brescia have been trying to get back to Serie A since 2005 but to no avail (it’s hard not having this guy on your team) and this is their big chance to finally do it. It will be interesting to see who is promoted on June 20th.
