Siena v Milan: Goals, Goals, Goals!
By: Martha | February 17th, 2007
Holy freaking crap was that a great game to watch. I don’t know if it was the coffee talking or what, but the first half — which offered four goals in the first 30 minutes — was one of most satisfying I’ve seen in months. Both teams were bright and lively, and played lovely, clean football, which you don’t really notice you’re missing until you see a game so full of it that everything else pales by comparison. Particularly in the first half there were very fouls, nobody went down easily, and there was just tons of sharp passing and good football. Truly awesome.
Playing alongside Ronaldo and in front of Kaka, Oliveira looked useful for the first time in months for Milan. He scored (though Manninger might have dealt better with the shot) and played a perfect ball into Pirlo’s feet to set up Ronaldo’s first goal. I’m mostly an Oliveira hater, but he was really, really good today — clearly coach Berlusconi knows what he’s doing, playing the three Brazilians together. Which is a frightening thing to even think, let alone type.
On other side, Siena’s newbie was even more threatening than two-goal Ronaldo: Massimo Maccarone, finally freed of all the haters in England, was on fire today, scoring twice and buzzing constantly around the Milan goal. It even looked for a while as if he had saved a point for the home side when he turned in his second good finished of the day in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, his teammates decided there was no point in starting to defend in injury time, and Ambrosini scored with the last touch of the game, sending the traveling fans into a state of delirium. I’m a terrible prognosticator, but this is the sort of game that could really turn things around for Milan — don’t be surprised if they find another gear next week. If everyone stays healthy, they’re suddenly looking like a Champions League side.

It was a fun game to watch. (And it wasn’t the coffee talking.) Was it just me or did Ronaldo look livelier than he has in a long time?

I agree with you, Lisa — he not only looked lively, but creative and sort of eager. His enthusiasm was downright creepy!

Very Good game. Siena deserved at least a point. Milan were lucky to win in my opinion, especially since that 3rd goal they scored had about 100000000 things worng with it. Still a very entertaining game!
