Someone Needs to Lock Adriano Out of the Training Ground

By: Martha | November 8th, 2007

Yeah, he’s a mess.Breaking news: Adriano is still depressed. Such is the depth of his pain that he can’t really train or play like he wants to which, one would think, explains he absence from the Inter team for much of this season. Of course, it would be a lot easier to buy the drama if he didn’t bring it up only when he doesn’t turn up for training, or is mildly called out by his gaffer for not training properly for more than a few days at a time. I’m sure the media are calling Adriano all the time for his reaction and it’s hard to resist talking about his problems if he really is this much of a mess, but you’d think someone could tell him to stop using it as an excuse. I mean, his mom lives with him now, right? Can’t she tell him NOT TO ANSWER THE PHONE?

Here’s the thing, though: Moratti says the Brazilian is staying, so this isn’t going away; it’s time for the club to take some responsibility for the guy. Taking him at his word, Adriano is huge mess, has been since his father died. Having his mom around is not helping and neither clearly, is that whole self-medicating-with-alcohol (or not, if he’s really stopped) thing. Football, also, must be hell right now — he’s reportedly not training well and almost never playing; when he does play, he’s substituted and only gets more miserable. So why the hell is he there?! It’s not helping the club, and certainly not helping Adriano, either emotionally or in terms of his career. Why don’t the club sit him down and tell him he can’t come back to training until he gets sorted? They’ve got more money than God as well as all kinds of contacts: Get the guy the attention he needs, get him treatment, get him meds, get him healthy — it’s not like he can just train his depression away.

Ok. I’m going to back to making fun of him now.

    its inter milan.

adriano is not the first player to bomb at inter, and he most definitely wont be the last.

i guess if the greater good requires the sacrifice of a few lost souls, its ok by moratti’s standards…

I agree 100%. Inter have to intervene and force Adriano to take time off football and seek help.

Adriano needs to hold himself accountable for his own life. I know losing a father and depression are tough, but at some point you have to figure out that that things won’t get better unless you make them. Instead, he trains hard for a couple weeks and feels entitled, then regresses when things don’t go his way.

Are there an abnormally high number of players that flop at Inter? Sure. But Adriano was one of those that actually made it. His subsequent fall has been unique even by Inter’s standards.

And I don’t think time off is the answer, at least not if he’s still aiming to be a professional footballer.

RT, i think your right, but inter can help adriano realise that he needs to be accountable. Why throw away a great talent? They have invested so much in him already why not invest a bit more?
