Stevie G to Juve?
By: Martha | January 22nd, 2007
It’s Monday, so there must be another Juve transfer rumor to talk about. Today, the target is a Brid: In addition to the 4091 other players they’re pursuing, Juve are also interested in bringing Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard to Turin over the summer. It’s almost impossible to imagine Gerrard playing for another club, but Juve have been interested in him for several years (which makes them one of many), and are reportedly preparing to offer Liverpool £30 million in exchange.
Since this interest has actually been confirmed by Juve, it’s less outrageous than most of the other transfer rumors associated with the club. Interest aside, though, given Gerrard’s desperate love for Liverpool, I’ve never been convinced that he’ll ever leave, despite how hot and heavy the rumors sometimes get. BUT if he did leave? Serie A seems a much more likely destination than, say, Chelsea — it’s a new challenge, a clean slate, and he wouldn’t have to go back to Anfield in another team’s shirt.
Yeah, I like Gerrard. And I’ve love to see him in Italy — he plays with the sort of toughness that is needed to survive here (Should I not say “here” when I’m talking about Italy? It feels weird to say “there,” but since I’m in bloody New York City, “here” is just a huge lie.), and is a fighter above all else. Plus, his brutal power would be a nice counterpoint to Nedved’s vaguely graceful running around/falling down.

Wouldn’t it just be easier to list the players who are NOT supposedly going to Juve?

Yeah, the list must be about a dozen players

It’s quite cute that Juventus have confirmed a £30 million offer for Stevie G. It’s so adorable, like a precocious 3-year-old dressing up in his daddy’s shirt and tie and pretending to be a “business man.”
It’ll never happen, of course, but it could be kind of fun to tease Juve into a £40 million or £45 million offer. That’s silly money, naturally, but I’d get a kick out of tempting them and then turning Juventus down. I look at it kind of like the ol’ dollar bill at the end of a fishing line trick.

This speculation has obviously been leaked just to get a reaction from me. Anything concerning Gero’s career goes through me. As with Mrs. Oddo and Mrs. Goldenballs, I put my Prada shoes down and say Steven is staying in Liverpool where he belongs. He will not be happy elsewhere.
