SuperCoppaItalia
By: Francesco | August 25th, 2008
So as you can see from the title, 2 things happened in the calcio world this weekend. We had the SuperCoppa, and we had the third round of the Coppa Italia. Let’s go backwards and begin with the SuperCoppa. Inter won the first trophy of the season, triumphing over Roma on penalties 8-7 after drawing 2-2 in regulation. Many did not get to see the game, because nobody in the US was broadcasting it, but I got to watch it on a stream, as others did. Inter went ahead in the first half on a goal from new signing Sulley Muntari. In the second half, Daniele De Rossi drew level with a rocket from distance. 7 minutes before full time, Mexes mistimed a header and Mario Balotelli ran onto the ball, chipping it over an onrushing Doni to put Inter ahead. Just when Inter thought they had it won, Mirko Vucinic tied the game in stoppage time on a header from a corner. In extra time Inter pushed but Roma defended and the game went to penalties.
In penalties, Stankovic hit the crossbar and Totti could’ve won the game for the Giallorossi, but his powerful shot thumped the bar. In sudden death penalties Juan had his penalty saved by Julio Cesar and Javier Zanetti slotted home to win the SuperCoppa for Inter.

Supercoppa was actually a really fun game to watch. I was cheering for Roma, if only to avoid Inter getting too much confidence early on. Cruel fate for Totti to miss the decisive pen, and then see Zanetti score his. Ah well…
Oh and:
Lecce – Salernitana 0-1
21′ st Di NapoliGrandi Granata!! W00t!

forza granata is right! One more win then it’s derby of campania Napoli v Salernitana. Can’t wait. The best calcio game I have ever been to. Scared shitless but it was fun.

Winnable game too for Salernitana as Sassuolo are in Serie B but newly promoted. Napoli-Salernitana would be excellent. I wonder if Padova and Ravenna can keep up the surprises…

Two legs home and away from now until the final (which will again be a single match).

Salernitana lost to sassuolo in the serie c suppacuppa last year when they won both of there sides. I think the first game of the year is them playing each other. Weird out of 7 games they play each other 4 times.
