The Crazy is Rampant in Serie A
By: Martha | April 24th, 2007
You know, just when you’re sure Maurizio Zamparini is the craziest bastard in all of Italian football, a story like this pops up and you’re forced, once again, to wonder.
To review: Messina had a crummy start, so at the end of January they sacked manager Bruno Giordano and replaced him with Alberto Cavasin in the hope of fixing things. However, since we all know that only works if the man you bring in is named Claudio Ranieri, nothing changed, and the club dumped Cavasin and rehired Giordano about three week ago. In the four matches since he got his job back, however, Giordano has managed to pick up exactly zero points, and — wait for it — was fired again yesterday and replaced by journeyman coach Bruno Bolchi. (Note to Bruno #1: Do not ever say yes again, no matter how sweetly the chairman talks to you. It won’t end well.)
Call me crazy, but I suspect Zampa has Messina chairman Pietro Franza on his payroll and, whenever he does something particularly nutso, he places a call to his boy Pietro and suggest he pull a prank of his own, if only to slightly distract the press. And, after yesterday’s day-long firing drama, distraction was definitely needed. Hopefully Zampa plans to behave himself for the next few weeks, though, because if Franza tries to can someone else this season, he may end up in the nuthouse.

Zampa, Franza, Tutti Pazzi! Put Spinelli on your list too although I’m not sure how to abbreviate his name. Spinto, possibly, for the way he pushes Coaches out the door…
