The Eto’o-to-Milan Rumor Returns

By: Martha | May 7th, 2007

It's a bird, it's a plane.During the winter transfer window, one of the roughly 400,540 names associated with a move to Milan was Barcelona’s sublime Samuel Eto’o, who was probably seen as fair game by the rumor mongers because of his reported falling out with Barca’s Powers That Be. Since then, though, the name “Eto’o” has mostly been with replaced with “Ronaldinho” when it comes to Barca players allegedly in Milan’s sites — or it was until today, anyway.

it’s being reported this morning in La Gazetta dello Sport that talks with Ronaldinho’s brother/agent haven’t achieved the results for which Milan were hoping and, rather than pressure the player and risk pissing off his current club, the Rosoneri have turned their sights to Eto’o who, despite recent denials of trouble, is still thought to be on the outs with Barca coach Frank Rijkaard. In addition, Carlo Ancelotti is allegedly a big Eto’o fan, and Milan certainly have the cash to meet Barca’s expected £28m asking price, as well as the striker’s nearly £3 million salary. There is, however, the issue of competition: Rumors have Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all interested in Eto’o, possibly with folks like Theirry Henry and Andriy Shevchenko going to Spain in partial exchange deals.

Of course, all of this assumes Barca are even interested in letting the player go, something that is by no means a foregone conclusion. Stay tuned until tomorrow, friends, by which time all of the names will have changed. (So, is this what summer is going to be like? Every top player link with at least four difference clubs every day? Can’t. Wait.)

Eto’o and Kaka on the same team. I shudder at the thought of how much fun that would be to watch.

Although they are only rumours I’m sure all those clubs are thinking about Eto’o. You have to remember that some clubs also say their interested to jack up the price on a player their rivals are after. Clubs also say their interested in big name players like Eto’o to take attention away from other transfers they may be negotiating so other clubs don’t come and put a spanner in the works. So their is going to be millions of these things going around.

yeah as much as Eto’o may complain, and throw diva style tantrums, I think he’s staying put at Barca and all this will be forgotten come August. but the rumors are always fun.
