The Evelopes Are Opened, Or: Shocking! News, Quagliarella to Udine

By: Martha | June 22nd, 2007

*squeeeeee!*Among the names you know whose rights went To The Envelopes! earlier this week, everyone either went where expected, or left a club where no one cares about him for one where a few people do. (The full list is here.)

The big name, obviously, was that of Fabio Quagliarella and, as goal.com and Chris’ little bird had predicted (Apparently “secret bids” means something else in Italy than it does here), he’s now officially an Udine player — though how long that will be true is anyone’s guess. If you ask Quagliarella himself, it’ll be a while: “I don’t think Udinese will now let me leave — unless they receive a very important offer. … Juventus and Roma want me? Now it’s fantasy football, but you can never say never.” And the club’s carefully on-message sporting director agrees. Sort of. He happened to mention that “Something between £10 million and £13.5 million will be enough to secure the player’s services.” You know, if they were selling. *cough* Calling Man U. *cough*

Additionally, on a slightly lower level, Stephen Makinwa was secured by Lazio who paid €3.3 million for him, outbidding co-owners Palermo (who by all accounts wanted the money much more than they wanted the player) by about €500,000.

Having just left that relationship, Palermo turned around and entered into a new co-ownership agreement this afternoon, successfully offloading professional pain-in-the-ass Andrea Caracciolo onto Sampdoria, though no price has been mentioned. While I’m sure that, in Cara’s mind, he’ll step right into Quagliarella’s shoes, in reality Samp have got a long way to go to replace that firepower.

Palermo president Zamparini said yesterday, “We have to abolish the co-ownership system. It’s pointless, outdated and we’re the only country that still uses it.” And what does he do today? Caracciolo is sold off to Samp in a co-ownership deal…

Well the dude IS criminally insane. It’s amazing how well he sees through all the bullshit during his moments of lucidity though, isn’t it?

Apart from another retarded quote yesterday, Zamp did an excellent job selling Crapacciolo to Sampdoria. Seriously, except for whining, crying and being a snotty little bitch, wat has he brought to Palermo? 2 fine games at the end of the season and a goal against West Ham. Last year: about the same, but with a little less whining. Go get yourself a new man-purse and get over it.
