The Latest on Barzagli
By: Martha | June 14th, 2007
Just about a week ago, Palermo’s Andrea Barzagli was “close to” a move to Fiorentina. At the time, though Lazio and Juve were both interested, the Viola had made an official offer, and the defender’s agent insisted they were in pole position (as Adriano Galliani likes to say) heading into formal discussions with the Sicilian club.
Things have changed in the intervening days, however, and the Viola thing is no longer happening — this according to Palermo’s mouthy Director of Sport Rino Foschi (AKA Rino Gloomy, in the words of Google translate). Though Foschi has less to say about where Barzagli is going (We know he’s not staying with the Rosanero, not after the brilliant broadside he launched following the Corini debacle.), the latest rumor is that Juve have moved to the front of the queue, something which fits in with the overhauling the Turin club’s defense is undergoing this summer.
What’s Barzagli got to say? Leave him alone, man, he’s on vacation!* His normally chatty agent, however, has no such excuse, and surely will be fulling the air with vague generalities later today.

I once saw Zamparini’s name translate to Dr. Doom. Weird.
But good for Barzagli. Zamparini’s a prick, and I’m glad he said it.
