Things Heating Up In Ronaldo Talks, Or: The Fat Man Looms
By: Martha | January 24th, 2007
Though they’re still miles apart on the issue of a transfer fee, talks are now actually taking place between Real Madrid and Milan regarding the possible transfer of a certain porky striker. Since Milan are insisting the player be allowed to move for free, Real’s recent decision to reduce their transfer fee demand from €8 million to €6 million seems of minimal importance — but at least they’re talking! To this point the only actual negotiations had been between Milan and Ronaldo’s agent; all communication between the clubs was being done by an intermediary, something that makes it all sound beyond shady.
Shadiness and financial disagreements aside, however, the fact that Milan VP Adriano Galliani actually felt the need to tell the press that Ronaldo will not, in fact, be arriving at the San Siro today suggests that things are pretty far along. In Madrid, meanwhile, Ronaldo is not training with the team. Make of that what you will.

Per the current Gazzetta, he was due to arrive in Milan this afternoon for physicals, but they’re still 3 million euros apart, with Milan offering 5 (well Silvio is in a bit of hot water, maybe they need to save some for the legal defense fund. Then again, Silvio’s always in a bit of hot water.) Madrid’s holding out for 8.
