This Kid’s Gonna Be Alright
By: chris | March 27th, 2008Came upon this video today of a youngster scoring his first ever Serie A goal in his second game way back in 1999, slicing and dicing two pretty decent defenders in Laurent Blanc and Christian Panucci.
Sometimes you get the feeling that a kid is going to be good. Other times it just slaps you in the face. This is the latter.
(Then gets a yellow for celebrating, which was also quite telling.)

I remember watching this game. That goal was great and I knew he was going to be something special. The day after Gazzetta had the headline “Tutti Pazzi per il Genio” (Everyone’s crazy about the genius).
Also another youngster scored in this game, his name was like Eniyana or something like that, and he put in a great performance but never went anywhere with his career.

Sometimes you just have to ask the footballing Gods– WHY? Sometimes genius glitters fleetingly, and can go unnoticed for quite a while. Sometime it comes and smacks you in the face. This guy is the latter. He seems like one of those stories that 10 yrs frm now, fans will think in terms of what could have been…..He may still be a big success, but never what he could have been. Is there anyway that his story could have a fairytale ending? (I am a sucker for sappy romantic comedies, so will stick to my happy endings.)

Cassano is the best striker in serie A. If you disagree, you are wrong. WRONG. He is the best, talent wise, skill wise, desire wise. He is NOT the best composure (emotionally) wise, yet he does have the best football composure w/ the ball at his feet. If you do not think he is the best striker in Serie A, well, Im sorry to be rude, but you just have no idea what you are talking about. He belongs on the national team, and cares way to much about it to let the usual cassanata get in the way of the Euros…..

NiDi, Francesco Totti is a striker, hear he’s pretty good…..

You know tht teams can use dirty tactics to wind up players like cassano, right? For eg, we can sit here on our couch and get so annoyed and mad at petulant, argumentative, lying, cheating by some of the portugese players in WC 06. And the referee suppose is not great. You think Cassano has enough self-control not lose it? Even is there is a 40% chance, it is too risky. Isn’t thr any Vallium in the world that lets him play his usual, but controls his head? Wishful thinking.

“Best striker in serie A” is a stretch. Maybe in the top 5?

I’m one of the biggest Cassano supporters out there, and he has been my favorite player for a while now. (Actually, he’s just behind Zanetti.) And I have made that known.
What I’m about to say may anger some people, but I don’t care. This is how I truly feel.
“Natural” talent wise, he is one of the greatest ever to walk thise earth. Put him up there with Maradona and Pele. He just makes it seem so effortless. Compared to guys like C-Ron who have to do all this shaking and baking to get by a defender. (I’m not saying C-Ron isn’t good. He is.) With Cassano, he makes it seem like they let him go by them. Amazing.
Sadly, his physco (sp?) mind has lead him away from his top potential. (Suprisingly, this is one of my favorite qualities about him. Too many people are “actors” now, trying to be the next role model. This guy lets it all hang out for the world to see.) If he wasn’t so “crazy”, he would EAISLY (sp?) be the BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD.
He can still play with the best of them, and I would pick him to watch over any player in the world. Right now, his still the best in the world “natural” talent wise. However, as a complete player, you may find a little farther down the list.
He’s creative, exciting, and un-predictable. I love him. My dream? See him wearing that blue jersey yet again.

Oh, and thanks for the video chris.
Not that I haven’t seen it 10000000 times already…

Cassano makes any game he plays in fun to watch, its that simple.

Also, I feel that he was sort of “babied” while with Roma.
I’m not blaming his “nature” on that, but it was definitley a factor.
He grew up in Bari, which is a tough place to be. As a kid, he was rough and got into a lot of fights. So, I think, that’s were it all steams from.
But the babying (sp?) at Roma did “aid” it on.

red card risk? whatever, we had two earlyish reds in WC 2006 and still won the damn thing! we could probably overcome a little cassanata. oh and chris i think you’re feelings about cassano is like a guy who dumped a crazy but smoking hot girlfriend. on the surface you can’t stand cassano, but deep down you’re still jonesing for him

I have no feelings of ill will towards Cassano whatsoever - he’s a child in a man’s body. Where the hell did you get anything to the contrary?

Ah, the times when the San Nicola was filled with more than 2000 spectators. That’s one of the things that strike me most, next to the fact that this is almost ten years ago…

I can see his talent and appreciate it but I dont like him as a player (not talking about the cassanati) and I cannot pinpoint it why. Maybe because he has moments of brilliance that mounts to nothingness at the end of the day, I just dont like a waste.

Robert I 100% agree with everything you said.

i just assumed chris. anyways, i don’t think there’s much hope of him straightening things out ever. which is really a shame because i think he could be the second attacking player in serie a after totti. he’s in his mid 20’s doing the type of things young boys do
