Thursday Odds and Ends as We Shake Our Heads in Disapproval

By: Martha | September 27th, 2007

Long lost Luca•Luca Toni continues to completely own the Bundesliga, scoring his fifth goal over the weekend, while wee Giuseppe Rossi scored one and setting up another in about 20 minutes for Villareal, both of them leaving us wondering what would have happened if they’d stayed home. (And no, I don’t mean New Jersey in Rossi’s case.)

•Crowd trouble at Napoli’s Stadio San Paolo last night has led the FIGC to close the ground entirely for Sunday’s match against Genoa. It’s hard to find reports on the trouble (Joe at the Napoli blog dug up a few), but Channel 4 says the dreaded “offensive banners” were involved, as were various projectiles, one of which struck an assistant referee. Additionally, there was some sort of trouble away from the ground involving Napoli Ultras, several of which seem to have been arrested. (Whether you speak Italian or not, I’m guessing the original article is easier to understand that Google’s translation.)

•Apparently having learned his lesson from Adrian Mutu, Inter’s Massimo Moratti is being very careful right now to say that he prefers Zaltan to Francesco Totti, but never that the Swede is better than the Roman deity.

•Torino’s Waler Novellino, banned from the touchline for Torino’s match against Parma yesterday, was busted sneaking into the locker room (if I’m reading the translation correctly he, too, hid in the laundry, ALA Jose Mourinho) and has been fined €10,000 for his trouble. You think you can lie to the FIGC, Walter? Guess again.

•Finally, a question: Could someone please tell me why a random picture of two vaguely slutty women is being used to illustrate an article about Bobo Vieri’s real estate dealings? Or is his name enough of an answer?

    I have some details here
    http://napoli.theoffside.com/figc/napoli-genoa-to-be-played-behind-closed-doors.html

Wasn’t able to do much more than 45 minutes of research in between conference calls at work and I have to head off to calcio practice here in a few so I thought I’d post what I know. Typical stuff…few arrests, some flares and bottles thrown and a banner that said “Livorno merda.” In the words of Piglet “Oh, d-d-d-d-dear.”

    **** me.

I wish Moratti would say Zlatan is better. Francesco would score about 7.

The Christian Vieri article (with the two charming ladies, all innocent and pure) is in reference of Bobo being close to purchase a popular night club in Florence. So why the ladies you ask? The article adds that “the Florence crowd would surely enjoy if Satta (Melissa, Bobo’s gf) was invited to host at the club”, hence the picture.

That or they pulled a “The Sun centerfold” stunt to draw attention. Whatever the reason, I surely ain’t complaining. Huh? What article?

Oh that Walter Novellino story is hilarious.

For once I really have to thank Uli Hoeness for bringing some exciting players like Luca Toni to the Bundesliga. Although, Miro Klose currently owns Luca Toni ownage-wise. Scored 8 goals and got the assist for half of Luca’s goals.
