Today’s Faux-Crisis: Prandelli Leaving the Viola?

By: Martha | March 6th, 2007

Terminator PrandelliEvery once in a while, even the best of us need a break from the Roberto Mancini contract drama. Will he? Won’t he? Has he already? Do we still even care? Frankly, I’m not sure anymore; at this point it’s become more comical than fascinating.

But this ennui, my friends, is exactly why we need a new managerial contract crisis to discuss! Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Cesare Prandelli Unwanted at Fiorentina flap! Yesterday, the bomb was dropped by the manager that he’s yet to be offered a new contract by the club he currently has marauding through the league. And he’s not being coy, Mancio-style — in fact, Prandelli told the press that, were the club to put an offer-bearing piece of paper in front of him, “when [they] ask me to sign it will take me 30 seconds.” So what’s the problem, you ask?

Well, according to the Viola’s sporting director Pantaleo Corvino, there isn’t one. What? No arguments or winking denials of conflict? Oh. Well that’s disappointing. Apparently everything is fine, Corvino loves Prandelli, can’t think of anyone who could replace him and, according to one report, will soon offer the man a sign of his love that extends through 2011. Sigh.

Back to the Mancio drama for us, I guess. Either that, or we can gather around and guess at who might buy Luca Toni over the summer. Come on, who wants to play? Do I hear a Milan? How about a Juve? Who says Juve?

Don’t scare me like that Martha. Sounds like everything is cool, and with the way things are progressing with the Viola, I can’t see why either side would want a change.

I do however like your thinking – let’s create a bidding war over Toni. What an opportunity to sell a player at his peak value and continue to strengthen a very good (and young) squad …
