Toni to Turin? (Insert Further Alliteration Here)

By: Martha | February 7th, 2007

Toni n flagI’m so relieved the end of the transfer period didn’t mean the end of the rumor madness. Where would we be if Juve wasn’t linked to a high-profile player on a daily basis? I ask you. Today’s target? Why, Luca Toni, of course.

According to Tuttosport (a Turin-based paper which just happens to be the source of most of the outlandish Juve rumors), Toni has met with Juve officials, and Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has permission from the club to talk to any interested team about the striker. While anyone would want to have Toni in their team, his ostensible motivation — apart from that whole money thing — is sort of confusing. There has been talk for a while that he wants to play in Europe, and a move to a club with a Champions League or even UEFA Cup spot would be a logical choice under those circumstances. The thing is, though, that Juve are in Serie B, and will not be playing in Europe next year. So, if Toni is moving for the reported reasons, that’s one club that would be very much NOT on his list.

Yeah, Tuttosport is probably making things up. Again. Though we certainly appreciate their effort to spice things up during these trying times.

Ah, great to get back to the rumor mill. Might I add that this post brought the opportunity of showing Toni’s girl. Don’t know who that’d be but she is bound to be a hottie.

Is Luca Toni ever NOT trying to get transferred? He nearly threw a fit this summer to go to Inter before suddenly changing his mind and sticking with the Viola (perhaps they have something on him?). What is he, 30 now? He was a late bloomer, but that’s getting on the old side for a striker–it’s now or never for Europe.

Oh, and Toni’s fiancee is a hottie model (who he picked up before he started playing well, which is nice).

To be honest I could see this happening. Luca is notoriously difficult to please and hasn’t stayed at any club for an extended period of time. Also, remember that Juventus has Bojinov on loan (with an option to buy) right now. Maybe a return of Bojinov + some cash gets this accomplished. This might not be a bad idea for Fiorentina considering Luca’s age - this summer could be a last opportunity to get value for Luca before he gets too far past his prime.

These two teams are traditional rivals, and the fans in Florence hate Juventus. However, there has been dealings between the clubs over the last couple of years, so who knows.
