All he had to say was something like Nesta said: he's worried about his overall form deteriorating if he plays for both club and country so he's considering retiring from the national team for the good of both. Given the injury he's still recovering from, fans (and his teammates on the Azzurri) might be disappointed, but they would understand where he's coming from. But of course, Nesta has some class.

Martha, I've gotta say, when I read that headline, it was the first time I've laughed out loud at reading one in a long time. By the way, I've never liked Totti. Frick.

I really just think as a National Team Player, Totti feels he has nothing more to accomplish. His last game as an Azzurri was a World Cup Win. The last time he walked off the field as a memeber it was with a trophy in hand. He once said that in 1982, he was a boy partying in the streets after the World Cup and remembered how much it meant to the people. He said that he wanted to be part of a side that brought the same joy to the people of Italy and he was. It doesn't get any better than walking off the field as a World Champion.

That being said, he doesn't have to be such an ass about the way he does things. He could just say that, or whatever else the reason might be. But he has a rep to uphold. He is ER PUPONE. More like ER STRONZO sometimes.

Generally, I would agree that no player "has something better to do" than playing for the Azzurri. However, with your brilliant placement of that Ilary shot, one needs to think twice of Totti'd situation. She truly may be "something better to do".
