Video of the Week: Last Day Scudetto Antics

I decided, since this weekend Inter and Roma play crucial games on the last day of the season to decide the Scudetto, to post two videos of what happened to both teams the last time they were in the same situation. (Having to win on the last day to win the Scudetto)

The last time Inter had to win on the last day was the infamous 5 Maggio 2002 (Sorry Inter fans). The Nerazzurri, led by Hector Cuper, traveled to the Stadio Olimpico in need of 3 points to claim their first Scudetto since 1989. Inter did well the whole season, even having the strength to be first place when players like Vieri and Ronaldo were injured. The Olimpico was filled with Inter fans, and Lazio were basically playing for nothing. Inter, in a mix of overconfidence and nerves, fell 4-2 to the Biancocelesti, and were surpassed by both Roma and Juventus in the final table. (Roma finished 2nd, Juventus won the Scudetto). The day was summed up by the incredulous looks of Moratti in the stands, and the tears streaming down the faces of Vieri, Ronaldo, Materazzi, and others. The last time Roma were in this situation was June 17, 2001. Roma, led by Fabio Capello, were having an amazing season led by the inspirational play of Francesco Totti, Gabriel Batistuta, Francesco Antonioli, and so many other players, and needed to beat Parma at the Stadio Olimpico to claim their first Scudetto since the early 80’s. The Giallorossi didn’t fail, defeating the Gialloblu’ 3-1, and sending a whole city into delirium. I think nearly every fan in the stadium participated in the pitch invasion at the end. Who will be celebrating and who will be crying this weekend? We’ll have to see.
