Vieri Makes His Return, Lawsuit in Hand
By: Martha | April 20th, 2007
After months on the shelf with an injury, Christian Vieri finally returned to the pitch on Sunday to the great joy of Atalanta fans (and me), among others. Playing again clearly gave him a tremendous amount of confidence, because just a few days later the striker slapped both Telecom Italia and former club Inter Milan with a massive lawsuit, accusing them of tapping his phone and having him followed between 1999 and 2005. It’s unclear to me how, exactly, being followed and listened to is worth €20 million, but that’s what he’s asking in total (the amount is split about in half, with slightly more being demanded of the telecom company) for the violation of his privacy.
Rumors the club had kept an eye on the party-loving Bobo surfaced late last year after he’d already left for Monaco, and there was apparently some truth to the stories. I’m sort of fascinated by this, actually — if Inter were doing what Vieri is accusing them of, what was their goal? Were they taking careful notes ofnwho he banged and when? How late he was out each night, and with who? To what end? In order to sue him if, say, he fell off a table while he was dancing and did a knee? Or maybe it was purely out of curiosity, and they just wanted to see exactly how awesome the life of a hot young football start really is.
Whatever the reason behind the (alleged) surveillance, though, this begs the question: How likely is it Adriano isn’t being followed right now?
