Wacky Inter Rumors of the Day: Matrix, Solari in Demand
By: Martha | July 26th, 2007
Despite the profound lack of logic to the story, Spanish paper Marca is reporting this morning that Inter are considering a deal for none other than Antonio Cassano. Inter, you may recall, already has six strikers, and even with Recoba on his way out, the team are not exactly hurting for depth or ability up front. And, with Adriano on the books, they’re also not hurting for crazy, and would seem deeply unlikely to want to add yet another head case to the team.
That said, they probably wouldn’t mind getting rid of poor Santiago Solari, a man who works his tail off and keeps his mouth shut but is going to have an even harder time than he did last season getting on the pitch this campaign. And, since memories of Solari are good at Real, Marca’s suggestion of an exchange-based deal does bring a slight hint of reality to the story. That hint isn’t enough to make it remotely reliable, though — I’d say the odds of this happening are pretty much nil.
And, speaking of entirely unlikely transfers, Bayern Munich are reportedly preparing a €7.5 million bid for Marco Materazzi, to whom they’ll offer a three year deal worth about €4.5 million/season. Um, yeah. Good luck with that.
[Also, in case you missed it, there's finally an agreement on Chivu; the announcement is expected later today.]

I’m doing a language course in Germany and one of my fellow students is a Spanish guy in his twenties who works for Marca. He said he’s come up with more than a few rumors off the top of his head that have been published…

It’s nice to have that confirmed, Abby, seeing as how completely bizarre half of what they report seems.
He, see if you can plant something for us about … uh …. OH! Figo going back to Real! That would be a completely fantastic, giant lie of a rumor!

Ooo, that would be awesome.
He said that getting the job was pretty easy. If only I knew Spanish, I’d make up so many fantastic rumors…
