Wait, What? Figo Might Stay? For Real?
By: Martha | May 15th, 2007
Honestly, I don’t think my heart can take the re-opening of the Figo!Question. It was hard enough over the winter, but it’s over and everyone has (more or less) moved on — yes, even me. Now, though, La Gazzetta dello Sport is quoting the man himself as re-opening the door to an Inter stay, if only slightly.
According to my beloved, he’s always enjoyed his time at Inter and his only regret is that he didn’t make the move earlier in his career. (Aw.) “It’s a difficult decision to leave this club and we will see what needs to be done. You never know what might happen. It is logical that I think I will leave, but in football things change very quickly. Moratti is trying to convince me to stay, he is a great person and I feel deep affection for him.” So, that could be sort of promising, right? Later, though, he said “… At the end of the day the final decision will be mine and I have my own reasons to eventually opt for a move,” which doesn’t exactly sound like he’s changing his mind. (Plus, is it really up to him? I mean, he signed a contract to go to Saudi Arabia; I’m guessing the people who hold that piece of paper will have some input as well.)
So who the hell knows — maybe it was a slow news day, and La Gazzetta had column space to fill. Or (fingers crossed) maybe Figo and Moratti are letting the former’s great second half convince them he’s got another season at the top level in his old legs after all. ARG. Whatever’s going on, he better not just be toying with our emotions, trying to wring some more Figo-loving signs and songs out of the fans over the next few weeks.
