Week 11, Or: Damn You, Inter!
By: Martha | November 12th, 2006
Sigh. Despite never looking particularly impressive and falling victim a pair of nearly miraculous saves from Parma’s backup keeper, Inter managed to squeak out a not-overly-deserved win in this week’s late game, thus keeping pace with Palermo at the top of the table. Damn them and their front-runner luck! Not only did they get three points and break Parma’s hearts (I almost always fervertly support underdogs against perennial powers, particularly when they’re scrappy and tough and slightly desperate), but my beloved Figo gave the ball away almost every time he touched it in the second half, which made things difficult to watch. The only positive was the matter-of-fact attitude of the announcers on GolTV who spent most of the second half ripping on Ibra for his pathetic arrogance. It was wonderful, particularly when he was sent off after picking up two late yellows (due entirely to his inability to keep his mouth shut) and they suggested that he grow up and stop thinking “everyone is beneath you.” Nice.
The weekend’s complete results are after the jump.
Ascoli - Empoli 0-1
Catania - Livorno 3-2
Fiorentina - Atalanta 3-1: Could someone else who watched this game please confirm that Mutu actually stomped his foot when the last goal went in because Pazzini elected to take it himself instead of passing to the great (and possible offside) Mutu? I know he stood in the area and pouted while his teammates celebrated, but the foot stomp came and left before I was sure it happened. Either way, though — could anything make his priorities more clear? Pathetic.
Lazio - Udinese 5-0: I’m not believing this line until I watch the game. Where the hell did all those goals come from?!
Messina - Cagliari 2-2
Milan - Roma 1-2
Palermo - Torino 3-0
Parma - Inter 1-2: Why yes, Cruz did score again. Why do you ask?
Sampdoria - Chievo 3-0
Siena - Reggina 0-1
And so the top three remain the same, with Inter and Palermo tied on 27 points and Roma just four back. Behind Roma is a big, sticky mass of a tie for fourth: Siena, Atalanta, Cantania (!) and Livorno all have 16 points, and no one seems able to break away from the pack.

I do, yes — I actually just switched from Time Warner Cable to Dish Network in order to get GolTV. Little did I know that they’re finally offering ESPN Deportes, as well! I have almost more soccer than I know what to do with over here.
