Week 3: The Return of the Bobo (Oh, and Roma Go Top)

By: Martha | September 17th, 2007

Bo. Bo.Note: I’ve got meetings all day then am getting on a plane; normal service will resume tomorrow.

In case you missed it, our beloved Bobo scored yesterday (rest assured that, once pictures are working again, there will be one of him here), an event which we should all be celebrating by drinking heavily and behaving inappropriately today, work be damned. Ahem. Around the peninsula, though, it was a much quieter weekend than the last round, with only a handful of teams scoring even two goals, and six of the ten matches ending in low-scoring draws.

In other news, thanks to Juve’s impotent performance against Udinese and their own convincing win over Reggina, Roma are now the only undefeated team in Serie A, alone at the top on nine points. It’s only three games, but the capital club has shown no signs of weakness so far (and that Juan guy is giving them no reason to miss Cristian Chivu, as Chris will surely remind us 40 or so times this week), and can deal Juve a serious blow if they brush them aside at home next week. Lurking just two points behind Roma, though, are Inter, who cruised to victory over Catania despite deploying Adriano as a striker and ought to be able to stay within reach of the top, seeing as how they face Livorno next week. As is required by the (entirely fictional) Worldwide Association of Football Coaches (WAFC), Luciano Spalletti is talking down his team’s chances and praising other squads to the skies, while Roberto Mancini is doing to same, and proclaiming himself thrilled — thrilled, I tell you! — at the prospect of a tight title race. Because, you know, he just hated running away with things last year.

At the not-yet-distant other end of the table, meanwhile, Livorno, Empoli and Siena (who fought Milan to an impressive draw) all picked up their first points, and can proudly remember this day as the one when they were only eight points from the leaders.

Full results after the jump.

Fiorentina-Atalanta 2-2
Genoa-Livorno 1-1: Hey look, a goal by That Guy With the Skanky Girlfriend!
Inter-Catania 2-0: Cesar, who obviously trained at Inter this summer only because he’d not yet been loaned out, started his second game and scored his first goal. All hail Cesar.
Juve-Udinese 0-1
Lazio-Empoli 0-0: If you missed it, be glad — surely a contender for most boring game of all freaking time.
Napoli-Sampdoria 2-0
Palermo-Torino 1-1
Parma-Cagliari 1-1
Reggina-Roma 0-2
Siena-Milan 1-1

nicest goal of the weekend has to be Zampagna’s equalizer against Fiorentina:

the best part of the Hamsyk goal was the set up by Lavezzi. El Pocho receives a ball from 50 meters and then turns it with his shoulders to pass the ball perfectly to Marek’s feet.

    It’s gold, Jerry! Gold!

Francesco, that goal was phenomenal (I linked it in the post on that match, I believe) — Zampagna’s no Bobo, but he’s got his own badass old man cred; who knew he had something like that in him?

Zampagna is known for spectacular goals like that. Remember this one against Roma last year?
