Week 32: Signs of Life From Palermo!
By: Martha | April 16th, 2007
[Note: I'm in a meeting and then on a plane today, so this'll be it from me. If I can get home through the storms on the east coast (fingers fervently crossed), normal service will resume tomorrow.]
You know, if Inter weren’t already so damn far ahead, the fact that they dropped two points while Roma won again might be newsworthy. As it is, though, the focus is a bit further down the table, while Milan have finally — at long, long, long last — stepped into the fourth spot and made a 2007-2008 Champions League opportunity a reality (at least for today). The timing is unfortunate for Palermo who showed up and played for what sounds like the first time in months (No, I haven’t watched it yet. Yes, I’m dying to get home to my Tivo.) and led Inter 2-0 at the half only to be hauled back into a draw by a late Adriano goal.
As for the other European spots, Lazio remain solidly in third despite being held to a draw (!) by little Ascoli, who will never, ever stop fighting. Palermo and Empoli sit in fifth and sixth respectively, but Fiorentina continue to creep up on them and now sit just two points away from Empoli, who are struggling to hold on to their lofty position in the table.
And, at the other end of things, both Parma and Ascoli managed home draws, while Messina were beaten at home by Milan and slipped to second-bottom, two points below the resurgent Parma. Parma actually have safety realistically within reach now, sitting just a point behind Reggina, who seem to have lost the confidence they showed earlier this winter, and two away from the struggling Chievo. (Have I say “All hail Claudio Ranieri!” lately?)
Full results are after the jump.
Ascoli - Lazio 2-2
Cagliari - Empoli 0-0
Fiorentina - Siena 1-0
Inter - Palermo 2-2: In case you missed it, Figo was “inspirational.”
Livorno - Reggina 1-1
Messina - Milan 1-3
Parma - Catania 1-1
Roma - Sampdoria 4-0: If you count these goals, Roma have lost their last two games 7-5 on aggregate. That’s a little better, right? Oh, and for those of you keeping score, that’s two MORE for Totti.
Torino - Atalanta 1-2
Udinese - Chievo 2-1

Great that Totti was on fire Sunday, but where were the matches last Tuesday? Martha, the Inter-Palermo game was indeed a good one. Enjoy.

Muddia, the embarassment is what lit him on fire. And he was. It was an awesome match (if you’re a Roma fan, anyway. I don’t think Sampdoria enjoyed it as much.)
I was really hoping Totti would get a hat trick…I wanted to see how nuts the Olympico would go.Posted from

Thanks for the draw Inter! Milan’s in an automatic CL spot right now! I was hoping they’d beat Palermo and put Milan even further ahead but I’ll take what I can get now.

Couldn’t imagine if Palermo would play in Champions League ? With all my respect to them, Champions League is not their habitat. Thank god that Milan now is in the fourth position.
