Week 5: Made of Awesome*

By: Martha | September 27th, 2007

Inter loveOne fantastic game this round, and a couple great results for teams with lofty ambitions. The Fiorentina-Roma match was complete insane and a great pleasure to watch (different and more nervy than Roma-Palermo, but an equally worthy advertisement for Serie A), and the draw, combined with Inter’s very welcome thrashing of Sampdoria, left Inter in a tie for first with Roma. Could there be a better set-up for Saturday’s death match in Rome? Hopefully the Inter that isn’t utter crap will show up and keep the result from being humiliating.

In joint second are Palermo, who handed Milan the sort of utterly demoralizing loss usually reserved for the city’s other team, surprising Napoli, and Juve, who turned in yet another beating, this time a 4-0 victory over winless Reggina. One of the Only Lady’s goals came from David Trezeguet — that’s six through five games for both him and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has three braces already. What’s all that about Serie A being a boring, defensive league?

At the other end of the table, Empoli, Reggina and Livorno are still struggling terribly. That said, the latter two can at least point at Empoli and laugh — they have scored only a SINGLE GOAL THROUGH FIVE MATCHES. Jesus. It’s going to be a long season doesn’t even begin to describe how that must feel — it’s already been a long season for them, and there’s no sign it’s going to get any better. That said, they do at least have Europe. That’s something, right?

*Except for Milan supporters.

Full results and the table after the jump.

Catania-Empoli 1-0
Fiorentina-Roma 2-2
Genoa-Udinese 3-2: Don’t look now, Carlo Ancelotti, but your Marco Borriello scored a hat trick. That’s four for the season, more than all Milan’s strikers combined.
Inter-Sampdoria 3-0
Juventus-Reggina 4-0
Lazio-Cagliari 3-1
Napoli-Livorno 1-0
Palermo-Milan 2-1: Poor Milan. Four goals in four games just isn’t going to do it.
Parma-Torino 2-0: DAMMIT. (But: Woo hoo, a goal for Reginaldo!)
Siena-Atalanta 1-1

I argue with your definition of “made of awesome”.

I hate when Serie A is labelled as boring and defensive.

Its not. Its a bunch of horseshit people made up one day becuase they know their leagues are inferior. Serie A, over the course of the last 3 seasons, has had more goals scored than both the Premiership and La Liga, and is on pace to lead again this season. Not so boring defensive is it? And the game is played with a lot more skill, technical ability and class in Italy than it is in most places too.

Yes, yes, Martha, much better. *mutters under breath about stupid Inter fans and their stupid team actually stupidly winning, like that’s the purpose of a game or something*
