Wow, Milan’s Trainers Don’t Mess Around

By: Martha | July 5th, 2007

Mmm … coconuts. As you may recall, the no-longer-fat Ronaldo is currently chilling in Rio, enjoying the company of a member of AC Milan’s crack training staff. Said trainer is spending a week in Brazil whipping the striker into shape in order to have him ready for the preseason looming ahead. And this, my friends, is no regular training regiment — no sir. Just ask Ronaldo himself, who yesterday revealed to La Gazzetta dello Sport exactly how hardcore things are: “I am massacring myself in order to return more strongly.” DAMN. Color me impressed! Some guys say they would die for the clubs, but this? This is another level of commitment altogether!

Apart from the promise of suicide in persuit of fitness, it’s actually a pretty good interview — Ronaldo comes across as very together and fairly intelligent, two traits that are always shocking when they appear in Superstar!Footballers. He and Kaka have spent some time together this summer (including a dinner in New York, which none of our fleet of stalkers seem to have tracked down), but when the reporter asked if Ronaldo had offered the boy an advice on his future, his response was that Kaka has his life very under control and doesn’t need to hear how to run it from others. Or, if you prefer, “Ricky does not have need of councils.”

Additionally, he had a very insightful response when asked how envious he was of Pippo Inzaghi’s magical Champions League night in Athens (for those of you who don’t follow all things Milan, Ronaldo was cup tied and didn’t participate in the world domination). The Brazilian said he admired Inzaghi, but didn’t envy him in that moment; instead, he took inspiration from Pippo’s recovery from his past struggles, saying he’s hoping to do the same thing in the future. I mean, that’s pretty impressive depth of thought for a footballer in a quicky newspaper interview, right? I was impressed, anyway.

In other news, Ronaldo is enjoying football again now that he’s at Milan, would love to have Adriano as a teammate, probably won’t move back to Brazil when he retires (his son’s mother lives in Europe), and wouldn’t be drawn on if Pato or Robinho is his rightful heir. Oh, and his fiancee loves hats. Seriously.

    Martha,
His fiancee loves hats actually implies his head full of hair, thats my impression anyways.
And, I have always been impressed with the way Ronaldo presents himself in the interviews. For a person with almost zero education and zero background, he’s quite sensible.
I hope he keeps up his promise of goals the following season, there is nothing like watching his blistering goals!

You’re just looking for excuses to post New and Improved Ronaldo pictures, aren’t you?

Lisa, you’re totally on to me. (And look at you with the Italy flag by your comment! You’re there already?! I’m so confused.)

Thank you, ritz! I looked at the original but couldn’t figure out what the hat thing was all about — makes total sense now.

Mike, I think Ronaldo’s really on to something. If I can find a beach, I may give his diet a try.

I’m in Sardinia until Monday. And Ronaldo’s definitely onto something. A few days sleeping on the beach have me feeling much better (although slightly sunburnt.)

Nice, I’ll be in Capri at the end of July and maybe I’ll try “Ronaldo’s Sex Beach Diet” as well.

I probably won’t even match the tan, let alone the abs and chics-with-hat-fetishes, but who can blame me for trying?

Hehe, i’m really impressed by his new form…
about the hats thing, if i am allowed a small clarification (capelli is italian for both hair(plural) but also for hats, the former ment in this case)
the journalist is saying that he is now letting his hair grow longer, the way Berlusconi likes them (what the ..???), while Ronaldo replies “not only him, his fiancee loves them as well , …” i hope he’s joking on the Ruud Gullit bit though =D

Thank you, Joni! Any help from a human who can clarify Google translate’s butchery of Italian is always appreciated!

(And “new form” indeed. HOW did we not come up with that before?)

Oh, and regarding Berlusconi: What the old man and Ronaldo get up to in private aside, he apparently asked Ronaldo to start growing his hair out the moment he arrived in Milan. No idea why (which leads us back those earlier alarming thoughts).
