You Guys, Stop Being So Mean to Gianluca Pagliuca!

Stop press: We finally found someone who is pissed he had to play in front of fans yesterday. Ladies and gentlemen, Gianluca Pagliuca. Yes, he’s won the Scudetto and played in World Cups. He’s still just a sensitive soul who, sometimes, can’t take any more of the yelling. Especially when it’s mean.
The former Sampdoria keeper (who now plies his trade in the deepest reaches of goalkeeping hell Ascoli) is feeling very aggrieved by the behavior of the Samp fans who, thanks to the fact that their team plays in one of the few not-crappy grounds in all of Italy, were sitting quite close to him yesterday. However, instead of sitting with their hands folded and thanking The Man for letting them in, the Samp supporters decided to spend 45 minutes “insulting” poor Gianluca. (They stopped because he went to the other end, not because they had a change of heart.) Can you believe it? Football fans, yelling mean things at an opposing player, who they once loved! Have you ever heard of such a thing? And this wasn’t the first time they were mean to him — oh no! Why, way back in the late 1990s (no grudge-holding here) when he played for Bologna? Samp fans threw things at him!
Really, the whole thing seems to have Pagliuca more confused than anything else. When talking to reports after the game, he sobbed “I really don’t know why they are always so mad at me.” Aw. I was feeling bad for the guy until he decided to connect the jeering of the Samp fans to the violence of that lost weekend — at that point he lost me. “I am even more disappointed,” he said, “if I think of the difficult moment we are living in as to football-related violence.” Luca, what we WANT people to do is yell nasty things. Yelling is good.

Plus: I’m QUITE sure that we Seattlites were EXTREMELY nice to A-Rod after he left. The #$%^& traitor. And NONE of us are still holding grudges years later.

Could you have found a more perfect picture for this post? I submit that you could not. Definately made me smile and brought back memories of my formative Sportscenter years when nobody in the U.S. knew (or more aptly followed) anything about Italian soccer, but everyone knew the name Gianluca Pagliuca from Keith Olbermann constantly uttering it.

I’m a Pagliuca fan (from the Inter days….) and must admit that he’s either looking for some attention to go his way these days or he’s ready to retire.

Gianluca is a champion & the best goalkeeper..No one can be same as Luca at all, and Samp fans are so mean, just keep in ur kind soul and mind that you are better than these “dregs”. And, ur look in this pic means a lot.. I’m sure you don’t know yet your place in our hearts.. Feddait ana hatha el wayh ana habibi :)Hope you are better now cuz I didn’t see in “Ascoli-Roma, match” any handsome guy call “Gianluca”!
