You Knew it was Coming: Sheva’s Had Enough of this London Nonsense
By: Martha | November 12th, 2006
The Italian papers are full this morning of the totally unsurprising news that Andriy Shevchenko is ready to pack in his London adventure and come back to Milan. According to the frighteningly powerful Silvio Berlusconi, he and Sheva have talked frequently since the player went to Chelsea (of course, they’re homies and not just player and former owner, so some of those chats could have been about the weather or the food in London, or something) and the boy is desperate for a return. Needless to say, it would be MASSIVE for Milan for get Sheva back (A striker? Who can score? What a concept!), but the pressure on him would be immense. I mean, what if he came back and didn’t immediately start banging in goals? I shudder to think how quickly sympathy would turn to disgust, particularly with Milan hanging about in the wrong end of the table. And, as much as I want Sheva back, I have to say that part of me wants him to stay in London and prove himself there — he’s struggling to score (though he has a couple of goals in recent weeks) but is still making a difference on the pitch, and it’d be nice to see him get used to life in the Premiership and become as big of a threat there as he was in Serie A.
In other Milan news, they want them some Oddo — the sooner the better, please.

I hope he stays in London, mostly because I am really enjoying watching Milan struggle, but also because I want to see him succeed in England. I think he has played well and is the main reason Drogba is having such a fantastic season. When half the defense is keying on Sheva, Drogba has had acres of space to operate.

P.S. One of my favorite soccer bloggers once told me that it is part of being an American soccer fan to ALWAYS feel like a bit of an impostor. I found this hugely comforting. (It’s NOT just me.)
