Jonathan Zebina on the Wrong Side of the Bed
By: Martha | December 12th, 2006
There’s been so much inspiring press coming out of Turin lately — Juve are at the top of the table on the verge of promotion, still winning despite the evil forces trying to keep Nedved down, etc. — that it’s almost refreshing to hear someone at the club doing a little bitching. And bitch someone does — Jonathan Zebina was in rare form when talked to journalists yesterday, and he seems to be angry about pretty much everything. Among other things, he feels he’s been held prisoner by the club, which refused to accept offers for him and other players when the team went down over the summer, thus forcing them to slave away in Serie B instead of reaping top-flight glory elsewhere. (Sort of harshes the “Juve players proudly staying with the club come hell or high water” buzz, doesn’t it?)
In addition, people are being mean to him! They’re all mad because he refused to play in Naples, which is totally unfair because his leg hurt. It wasn’t his fault! Plus, the chairman is apparently talking smack about him in the press which is pretty hilarious — I mean, you know you’re in trouble when the guy who runs the team is telling the media you’re unimportant. And, finally, Zebina mad at Inter for accepting the Scudetto from last season. Whew.
I wonder if he’s (successfully) written his ticket out of Turin — or least to a permanent seat in the stand — with this little rant, or if everyone will ignore it and life will continue as if he never opened his mouth. You know, because no one cares what Jonathan Zebina thinks.
