Dubious WAG of the Week: Federica Fontana

The observant among you will recognize Ms. Fontana from the special, Bobo’s Birthday WAG double-dip but, at the time, she was only a guest star, not an actual WAG. Recent word from the Roma section of The Offside, however, has it that she once dated Francesco Totti, and therefore is worthy of a post of her own. While I personally suspect the insistence on such a relationship is just an excuse to get another picture of Federica, I’m going to take my anonymous informant at his word, and assume the reason there’s no proof is that the Totti-Fontana relationship was simply a very quiet one. (Plus, it’s the informant’s birthday, so it’s really the least I can do.)

Ms. Fontana has apparently been doing ads essentially since birth but, like 90% of her fellow WAGs, her career didn’t blow up until a good showing in a beauty contest. In her case, the fateful year was 1995: She was 18 years old, the contest was Miss Buona Domenica, and she placed third; virtually since that day, she’s been a fixture on Italian TV. She appeared on things as wide ranging as a children’s show, a comedy, and some sort of musical program, but her main focus has been on sports shows, including co-hosting a pair of weekly Serie A programs. Oh, and she also did the requisite nudie calendar (NSFW proof here).

Last year, after four seasons on Guida al Campionato, she left it in favor of a hosting spot on Controcampo-Diritto di replica; I hope for her sake no one threw a pig’s head at her when she returned to the Italia 1 for the first time after the switch — competition must be pretty fierce in Italy for the Token Hot TV Host chicks.

Note: I’m on a plane most of the day tomorrow and will be away for the next 10 days or so. Updates will still be coming, but probably not as regularly as usual. (Just pray with me that I’m around when the Adriano deal goes through — don’t want to miss that one.)
